Demolition Best Practice Project under $1M

We won the Best Demolition Practice for projects under $1M for our work on the Christ Church Cathedral Visitors Centre. We were awarded the contract to deconstruct and demolish the 1995 Christ Church Cathedral Visitors Centre. This initially involved removing contamination built up since the 2011 earthquakes and deconstructing the Visitors Centre. There were two primary challenges - first, the adjoining building was a Category A Heritage-listed building with extensive earthquake damage. Second, the location was busy with contractor crews, tourists, and pedestrians close by. In addition, we unexpectedly uncovered unknown contamination and that the basement wall acted as a retaining wall for the Cathedral. These challenges were approached with practices that kept the public and Cathedral safe. Such as ensuring the site gates were kept closed at all times and using a Demco DMV25W multiprocessor head to reduce shock load and vibration to the Cathedral.

2020

Demolition Contractor of the Year

In 2020 we won the New Zealand Demolition Contractor of the Year award in recognition of our contribution to the industry. We also achieved the Environmental Choice Construction & Demolition Waste Management EcoLabel in June - the first company in our field to become accredited in New Zealand.

2019

Demolition Best Practice Project under $1M

This award was won for the demolition of the Christchurch District Health Board's Diabetes Building on Hagley Avenue. Due to its proximity to other hospital buildings, and the fact that there was a large oxygen storage tank located adjacent to the building, this was a technically challenging job. The project involved soft strip, cut and crane demolition and high reach excavator demolition.

2018

Environmental Award

We were proud to win the CCNZ Environmental Award in recognition of environmental elements across multiple projects including the Wairewa Canal Bridge project (which involved native and endangered wildlife) and the demolition of the Tui Stand at Lancaster Park, where we achieved a 99.8% recycle rate.

Most Progressive Company

This award recognised the quantum shift in our approach to, and execution of, our contracts between 2017 and 2018. In the judge’s words, ‘they have developed a strong management team which provides the resource and expertise to undertake multi-disciplined and challenging projects. Their integration of environmentally sustainable methodologies and quality focus into the everyday operations provides a true “win-win” outcome.

2017

Environmental Awards

We were incredibly proud to win the 2017 CCNZ Environmental Award for environmental work in the Ashley River. In addition, we were recently recognised by Ashley-Rakahuri Rivercare Group (ARRG) and BRaid Inc (Braided River Aid) for our assistance with bird management on the Ashley River.
